Client's Problem
The client came with a request to create an aesthetic marketplace for handmade goods produced by Hawaiian artisans. As a reference, the client chose the Etsy website. Furthermore, the project was conceived not only as an online store but also as an information resource where users could learn about events in Hawaii involving the vendors.
Main Goals
It was necessary to create a website design to improve the user experience: eliminate barriers to conversions, enhance key performance indicators at individual stages of the Customer Journey. Particular emphasis had to be placed on the mobile version of the site: UX, usability, and functional capabilities.
Main tasks
- Development and design considering UX and UI requirements
- Development of a new visual style and design
- Development of adaptive design focused on mobile devices
- Create tools to improve the user experience
What We Did
We conducted a client briefing. This allowed us to specify goals and objectives as much as possible. We also used our own experience in developing designs for jewelry websites we had worked on before. As a reference, the client chose the Etsy website. The task was to create a similarly designed marketplace localized for Hawaii. The client wanted an aesthetic design that conveyed the mood and atmosphere of the resort and local flavor. We focused on the Customer Journey stages, usability, high-quality elaboration of the mobile version, and a focus on visual perception.
Product page
As a starting point for our work, we took an approximate Product Page layout provided by the client. We also decided to use the colors and style from the old website version, as they corresponded to the essence of the marketplace for handmade goods.

Home page
Screen space is maximally dedicated to visual elements so that products remain the main focus. The home page sequentially features:

Added a block with Favorite Stores. Clicking on the preview image in the block takes the buyer to that seller’s page. Block configuration is available in the admin panel: seller selection and image upload.

The Recently Favorited block appears on the home page if the customer marks a product or products as liked.

Menu and navigation
We avoided using graphical elements to achieve minimalism and prevent visual clutter in the menu. Objects are arranged based on priority. The names of catalog sections are placed above subsections and highlighted in bold. Users subconsciously perceive the importance of larger objects.

Catalog
Product previews are presented in a grid with uniform cells, where each card contains a high-quality photo, name, price, and product reviews. Filters and sorting with convenient visual elements (dropdown menus) allow quickly narrowing down choices by price, color, and other parameters. Colors and fonts are maintained in a warm, natural palette that emphasizes the craft nature of the goods.

A separate design template was developed for services provided by the sellers. These could be services of an event host, singer, or photographer. For services, the price is not indicated, as they will not be ordered directly through the website. Instead of the price, a button for contacting the seller is displayed.
The quick view function for a product or service was also implemented.

Seller page
Clean, easily scannable blocks with simple icons — all for easy comprehension.

Wishlist Page

Cart Page
1. Sellers can set up promotions for free shipping or discounts based on the total cart amount. Information about promotions is displayed on the Cart page.
2. Implemented a function that allows informing the seller that the order is a gift. You just need to check the Mark order as a gift checkbox in the cart. After that, fields for a personal greeting will open: To, From, Add a message. All this information will be displayed in the order. Also, orders marked as gifts automatically receive a special Gift Packaging tag in the general list, making them easy to find among other orders.
3. Buyers can move products from the cart to a special saved items section. They can return these products back to the cart and complete the purchase at any time.

Project Results
- Developed a new visual style and created an adaptive design for a multifunctional handmade jewelry marketplace that embodied the client’s vision.
- Implemented unique functions that increase conversion: a promotion system in the cart, an extended wishlist with favorite vendors, a gift wrapping option.
- Created tools for building trust: detailed product cards, vendor portfolios.
- Flawless user experience ensured with a focus on the mobile audience.
If you are looking to build a marketplace with unique design and functionality, we can implement your idea from scratch or upgrade an existing solution.
