When is Order Confirmation Before the Buyer Pays Required?
In an online store, order confirmation by the vendor before payment may be required in several cases:
1. Made-to-order or limited availability
If the product is out of stock, supplied from an external supplier (DropShipping), or custom-made (furniture, custom clothing), the seller needs to verify availability, lead times, and fulfillment capabilities.
2. Individual cost calculation
Confirmation is required if shipping is calculated separately (oversized cargo, international shipping), the price depends on parameters (size, configuration, quantity), and wholesale or personal discounts are available.
3. Pickup or offline payment
If the payment method selected is cash on delivery, through a legal entity invoice, or by bank transfer, the seller confirms the order and provides the payment details.
4. Price or stock mismatch
If the system displays an incorrect price or in stock value, the seller can confirm the current terms before payment.
5. B2B sales
In wholesale stores, confirmation almost always occurs before invoicing—volumes, prices, and delivery terms are agreed upon.
